I just received these today, so don't take this review as a representation of ling-term durability (though I have no doubts based on 3 other products by MEE Audio).
Now, I don't write reviews very often (I know, bad Amazon community support) but after receiving these today, I took them for a run and had such a good experience I had to let others know in case they were on the fence.
For some background, I have used several over-the-ear headphones over the last few years, two from MEE Audio and one from another company. I like the design and fit; they always feel comfortable and have met or exceeded my expectations for sound quality from low-cost earbuds. However, for years I have been yearning to go for a run or work out at the gym without being tethered to my phone, or even having my phone with me - all while still listening to my favorite tunes for motivation and keeping track of my workout stats.
I picked up the new Apple Watch Series 3 LTE this past Friday and had these earbuds on order to arrive today. As soon as they arrived, I swapped the ear tips out for some SX200 Comply foam, paired the headphones to my watch, and headed out for a run. I didn't even bother charging them. I ran my usual Monday 5k while my phone remained behind, all alone and lonely.
The sound quality was really good. These are not audiophile headphones by any means (I would argue that no Bluetooth headphones are), but I was surprised by how good they sounded listening to a mixture of hip-hop, rock, and pop on my workout playlist.
What impressed me the most, and what prompted my to write this review, is their design. First, they fit my ears perfectly. This may or may not help you since ears are like fingerprints, but I think the design will work well for most people. The cable between the two is a nice thickness; not too big or too small. All other Bluetooth headsets I've used have had longer cables between the earphones. While running, this cable ends up bouncing around on the back of my neck, eventually listing to the right side due to the minor increase is weight from the three-button control module. As the longer cable moves to the right, it becomes uncomfortable on the left; constantly pressing against my neck. The X7 cable is much shorter than any other that I have used. In my opinion, it is the perfect length. It is just long enough to circle around my neck at the base of my head without moving at all during my run. Really! It didn't move one bit! I turned my head left and right, up and down, and I could barely even feel there was a cable back there. There was no pulling on the ears either as the cable goes up and over the top front portion of the ear. If you need to adjust your cable length a little tighter, there is a very small cinch attached to the cable to help you get the perfect length for your head/neck.
During my run, I had no connection issues at all. The connection was clear and consistent. Honestly, the combination of the Apple Watch giving me freedom from my phone and the X7 providing a near-perfect fit makes me wonder how I could have run so many miles in the past with a phone strapped to my arm or hip.
If I had to pick at something, I'd say that the over-the-ear portion of the cable could be a little more mold-able. Other wired earphones from MEE Audio allow me to adjust the curvature to precisely fit my ears, while the X7 shape is pretty much what you get. That being said, I had no issues with these, even while wearing sunglasses. (I would also prefer a hard case, vs a padded mesh bag.)
If you're on the fence, hop off, pick up a set, and pair it to your favorite workout device. You won't be disappointed. MEE audio X7 Stereo Bluetooth Wireless Sports In-Ear Headphones (Blue/Black)
I have and thoroughly enjoyed a set of klipsch r6 non-bluetooth earbuds for years, but wanted to get rid of the wires so I bought a pair of these Mee's based on price point, Consumer Reports, and user reviews here. After trying the x7's they are going back for a refund. The deal breaker for me is, I like crank the volume pretty high on my jazz music, and these earbuds seem to have artificially low volume maximums. I compared them to the wired ones, and checked all my mp3 player and earbud/bluetooth settings, but no joy, these earbuds simply do not teach a high enough volume level to cut it for me. Also, inserting the bulky ear modules into the outer ear lobe sucks, it takes too long and is too fussy. I have typical male ears, it should not be that fussy. Not a good design. I bought a set of klipsch r6 bt's instead. The r6 bt's have easier fitting and normal volumes. 2/5 stars until they fix the suppressed volume and make them easier to wear.
