I have a couple of different camera packs. My primary is the Lowepro Flipside 300 Backpack (Black) - I also use a Mountain Smith pack that's slightly larger. I've been caught in the rain a couple of times, and even though I tried wrapping the pack in a garbage bag, the pack still got soaked. The camera gear did not get wet - but it was now in a damp pack, and the lenses steamed up like crazy.
I've been looking for a cover that would work, so took a chance and ordered this. OK, I could do without the Nat Geo ad emblazoned across the thing, but apart from that, this is the PERFECT solution. It fits the Flipside 300 - and larger packs - perfectly. There's adjustable elastic cinches to hold the cover in place. Putting on the hood on may seem a bit silly, but it's an integral part of keeping the pack dry. How do you keep water from running down the shoulder straps? Simple - cover them. That's where the hood comes in - it's connected to the pack and forms a tent over the straps. The result - a dry pack (in all but the most severe storms.)
The hood has an elastic adjustment and a Velcro neck strap. You don't have to use the hood - it's attached but self-stores in it's own pocket.
The entire cover self stores in a pouch, and compresses down to a packet about 5x5x3 inches. This way you can keep it inside the backpack, an external pouch - or hang it with the included loop.
It's a must have for your kit!
